Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. (Matthew 6:9-13 ESV)
This prayer of Jesus is simply him teaching us how to talk to our Father. Jesus starts of with the powerful statement of who our Father is: he is holy (set apart and perfect) yet he is approachable, he is Almighty God yet he is Father, our Father.
In verse 10 Jesus describes what the life of a son or daughter looks like. In one short sentence he summaries his earthly life and ministry in order that we can model our lives on his. "Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in Heaven". Much has been written about the Kingdom of Heaven and sadly a lot of it comes from a misunderstanding that it is all about action and doing.
The Kingdom of Heaven is the realm of the Father's love coming from Heaven to earth, that's to you and me. Our sonship is expressed when we say "Father, what little bit of Heaven do you want me to bring to earth today; what expression of love do want me to show to my family and friends?".
This is the will of Heaven being done on earth.
