"And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying 'Abba, Father!' So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God" (Galatians 4:6-7 ESV)
I think it is fair to say that the church around the world is generally comfortable with the charismatic expression of the Holy Spirit. We love those times of refreshing when the Holy Spirit moves amongst us, we value the gifts of the Spirit working in our midst and we see the fruit of the Spirit growing in our indiviidual lives and the life of the Church.
But I believe there is much more for us to see and experience about the life and work of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is God on earth, he is God’s own Spirit who has been given to us. Not just given to us but given to live in us, to guide us into all truth and to communicate and impart the Father’s love into our own hearts (John 16:12-15). The Father’s Spirit lives in us to father us so we know that we are no longer orphans. If we are not orphans we have to be sons and daughters.
Because we are sons and daughters God has taken his own Spirit and put him into our hearts so that we are able to cry out ‘Abba, Father’. Something happens deep within us when we receive the Holy Spirit which removes the emptiness and loneliness of our hearts and brings us into a revelation of who God really is and who we really are.
The Holy Spirit connects us in relationship to the Father.
